The report pegged the area intended for oil type varieties, at
1.54 million acres – an increase
of 19 percent from
2011. The area intended for non-oil varieties, estimated at
271,500 acres, is up 7 percent
from last year, but
that, too, will still be the seco
and lowest planted area since

A total of 43,466 metric tons (mt) of oil-type sunflower was crushed in
the month of February – up slightly from the 39,843 mt crush in January and
54,354 mt in February of last year. From Oct. 1, 2011 to the present, a total
of 202,323 mt has been processed compared to 336,391 mt last year during the
same time period.
New crop NuSun prices were in the
$28.50-$28.55 range, and $24,80 cash with an Act of God clause.
